Peel clay

Fruit peel blitzed with a binder into a sculptable putty. Each fruit gives a different tone and scent.

What you’ll make

Softly coloured by the fruit (pale brown for banana, rust for apple, gold for orange). Slightly sticky.

Flexible slots (flex around your material)

  • Pectin source

    Pectin-rich peel or pulp300g peel

    Fruit peel and pulp rich in pectin. Gels with sugar and acid.

    Examples Banana peel, apple, orange, quince

  • Acid (optional)

    Acid1 tsp

    Mild household acids. Adjusts pH, curdles milk, releases pectin.

    Examples Lemon juice, vinegar

    Note — Helps set.

Fixed ingredients

  • Flour or cornstarch · 100gAdjust to feel.

Refinements and variations

  • Apple, banana, orange and quince peel all work
  • Dry the peel first for a firmer clay.
